ARTOURATM Breast Tissue Expanders and MemoryShape® Breast Implants: Expanding Your Reconstruction Toolbox
نویسنده
چکیده
There was a time when breast reconstruction patients were content with simply having a breast mound or looking good in clothes; that time has passed. Many of today’s patients expect to look just as good or better than they did pre-mastectomy. They want breasts with a well defined IMF, curvilinear lower pole contour and a near-even distribution of implant volume i.e. upper and lower pole fullness without a round, overly augmented appearance to the breast. To meet the rising expectations of today’s patient, plastic surgeons need better “tools” to overcome the challenges created by the mastectomy such as thin skin envelope and ablated architecture/ support structures such as lateral and inframammary folds. This article will discuss two tools: (1) The ARTOURA Expander and (2) The MemoryShape Implant. After reading this article one should be familiar with the clinically salient features of the ARTOURA Expander, able to identify the patients best suited for the expander, comfortable with the different approach to choosing the expander, expansion and implant exchange and how it differs from older generation expanders. Weight Measurement and Volumetric Displacement of Breast Implants and Tissue Expanders: Why Port and Shell Volumes Matter in Breast Reconstruction, Augmentation, and Revision.
There are significant differences in weight and volumetric characteristics between silicone and saline breast implants of which most plastic surgeons are unaware. Phase I of this study was a weight measurement focused on recording differences in the weight of saline volumes instilled versus recorded weights of saline implants and expanders. Phase II compared displaced volume differences of tiss...
متن کاملOutcome of different timings of radiotherapy in implant-based breast reconstructions.
BACKGROUND The therapeutic role of postmastectomy radiation therapy has been demonstrated both in locally advanced breast cancer and in other high-risk conditions. Implant-based breast reconstruction for irradiated patients can generate higher complication rates. In this study, the authors observed the effects of radiation on temporary expanders and permanent implants. The estimate of the total...
متن کاملNummular Eczema of Breast: A Potential Dermatologic Complication after Mastectomy and Subsequent Breast Reconstruction
Purposes. The present paper reports clinical cases where nummular eczema developed during the course of breast reconstruction by means of implantation and evaluates the occurrence patterns and ratios of this complication. Methods. 1662 patients undergoing breast reconstruction were reviewed. Patients who developed nummular eczema during the treatment were selected, and a survey was conducted on...
متن کاملEarly Results Show Reduced Infection Rate Using No-touch Technique for Expander/ADM Breast Reconstruction
Infection is a common complication of immediate breast reconstruction that often leads to device removal, a result emotionally devastating to the patient and frustrating for her surgeon. "No-touch" techniques have been used in other surgical disciplines and plastic surgery, but they have not been reported for breast reconstruction with tissue expanders or implants and acellular dermis. We repor...
متن کاملTabbed Tissue Expanders Improve Breast Symmetry Scores in Breast Reconstruction
BACKGROUND Achieving symmetry is a key goal in breast reconstruction. Anatomically shaped tabbed expanders are a new tool in the armamentarium of the breast reconstruction surgeon. Suture tabs allow for full control over the expander position and thus inframammary fold position, and, in theory, tabbed expanders mitigate many factors responsible for poor symmetry. The impact of a tabbed expander...
